I'm thinking about buying this and I would like to know what you all think the grade would be. Appreciate the help with this one.

looks cleaned and toning over in these pics. Are these the seller pics? I would not buy that coin based on these photos unless there is a return policy and you'll know well enough in-hand what a cleaned coin looks like.

Is there any luster on the coin? It looks very dull, I am weary for you. Here is my advice on such an expensive purchase. SCOUR the internet for slabbed PCGS or NGC in High AU slider condition or lower MS. I think taking leaps of $700+ coin purchases require patience and a keen eye. This coin, unless you say with confidence that you can tell cleaned/dipped from not and are equally confident that you've got a lustrous original or slider, than I say steer clear and keep searching.

I agree with dsfreeworld, that's an expensive coin that needs to be certified. Added mintmarks are common for this date. It appears AU+ to me and all of $700 worth if genuine.

I am late to the party. Turn my head for one moment and miss all the fun.
Highly suspicious. Most probably cleaned. But if it is legit, that is a nice piece.
I have trouble distinguishing high AU from MS by photos . . . but if that goes MS, it is certainly a valuable piece.
In light of the value of a legitimate piece, the fact that a coin shop (!) does not have the coin in a slab speaks volumes. That alone would lead me to believe it is cleaned.
Is the deal done? Have you decided? If so, would you perhaps share the particulars? Price? The dealers claims about the condition of the piece?

I agree something seems a little off with the luster. Maybe cleaned or maybe it's just the photos. High AU at the worst possibly MS.

The dealer that I have by me is one that doesn't do slabs unless they already came to him that way. Nor are they one to put a grade number on a coin. It's an irritant at times and kinda fun to argue over the grade of a coin. It is cleaned I went back and in hand its much more evident. Still debating on it I'm not a fan of cleaned coins but for some reason when its a decent high grade pleasing coin I think twice about it.

Only buy it if there is a return privilege if it does not grade as stated by a TPG. Then get it slabbed. This is a very hard coin to sell raw.

I have asked for that agreement (return if it will not grade) numerous times from dealers who offer a nice looking raw piece.
Never once has the dealer agreed to those terms.
Wonder why that is? :)

I would question the authenticity of this coin. It is one of the most copied coin on the market so that's another reason to buy a slabbed one only. I've read where one of the signs of a fake is a dent on the left leg (our right). This coin shows a small dent on that leg. Also when a D mint mark is added, sometimes there is a resessed area around the mint mark. This coin kinda shows that also. If your really wanting a fine example of the 1932D Washington quarter, be patient and find a slabbed one. It will give you much more pleasure looking at it than a cleaned one like this. IMOP

Jessie, you have me intrigued. Is there anything in particular to make you think fake?
My thoughts are the overall look is off, but I would think a bad cleaning job dulled it. Maybe artificially toned, maybe natural tone after the cleaning. But I don't see FAKE really . . . .

Heres a close up of the D. It might have just looked bad from the pictures. Nothing in the close up makes me think its added.

Looks nothing like the MM in the early pic . . . . at all. You have super resolution in the MM pic. I would like to see that entire image. Or is it the same shot? I have heard the commons expression "if it looks fake it is probably real and if it looks real is probably fake. Very common (almost required) to have the MM sitting in a sort of recess. Usually with black surrounding it. I definately did NOT stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, so people please jump in!!
