Recently got this 1818 bust half.... counterfeit...
Only one known of this undiscovered Davignon variety.
Bogus bust halves before 1820 are RARE....

Pretty cool Harvey.

I picked up that 1825 contemporary counterfeit you pointed out on ebay in a different thread a while back. The seller messaged me after I had paid and said someone wrote to him that it was fake and wanted to buy it. I wrote back that I knew it was (thanks to you) and I wanted to go through with the transaction.

It's my first contemporary counterfeit but certainly not my last.

The 1825 1/A variety piece almost looks real. It was probably made from discarded mint dies....

Neat piece, Harvey. I can't help but wonder if it was holed and carried by a bank employee back in the 1800's. I'm guessing that whoever holed it likely knew it was a counterfeit; and, possibly used it for show and tell.
