After the Timurids the next dynasty to take control over Persia and surrounds were the Sefavids (or Safavids), the first non-Mongol rulers for some time. They also made Shia Islam (or Shiism) the state religion. For more information
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Safavid_dynastyThe largest extend of their territory was under Shah 'Abbas I:

Here two coins, both minted under the 2,400 Nokhod standard which lasted until 1593, so fits in on this forum:

AR Two Shahi (4.6g) AH952(1545+) of Shah Tahmasp I ibn Isma'il (AH930-AH984 = 1524-1576)

AR Four Shahi (9.2g) of Shah 'Abbas I ibn Mohammed Khudabanda (AH996-AH1088 = 1588-1629)
On both obverses is the Shiite Kalima with the Twelve Imans around.
After 1593 the weight standard was lowered to 2,000 Nokhod which lasted till 1629 when it went down to 1,925 Nokhod. So lower weight coins are out of bounds here.
