My husband recently bought a desk and under a false bottom he found a bag full of old coins. One of them really intrigued me and I started researching around on the internet. I got far enough to identify it as a cap and ray silver real. It is very worn, so it is probably not worth anything but I am very curious to know why the details that are visible on it don't precisely match the details I've seen on the real coins on the internet. Is this coin a counterfeit or extremely rare?

I've taken a few photos and I'll try to attach them to this post.

I moved your post to the identification section

EDIT - the cap and rays look like a coin from Mexico. Like this example: ½ Real
do you know its sizes and weight

As 'Fuzzy317' said, please tell us the weight and diameter of the coin. The type is clearly Mexican after the colonial period, could belong to the 'Reales' series but also belong to the later 'Peso' series or even be from one of the local issues during the Mexican Revolution. Having said that, weight and size will help to narrow it down. Also add a picture showing the rim.

Looks to be Mexico, circa 1840s. Your coin may be too damaged to identify with 100% certainty, but diameter and weight would help identify the denomination at least.
