Sorry about the newbie question, but how can you tell a proof from a non-proof Lincoln?

I got a 1911 matte proof also, I doubt there will be anymore additions anytime soon unless one slips by cheap on ebay. jbakic this is from a book (can not remember which one) Matte proof Lincoln cents were made by: 1. new, unhardened dies were sandblasted. 2. the dies were hardened normally. 3. these dies were used in an hydraulic medal press to stamp the coin (one blow from the press). All dies started out with flat rims and nearly square junctions between field and rimes or lettering, but only the medal press could exert enough pressure to force this fully into the coin planchet. This process produced the distinctive surface on Lincoln cents 1909-1916 and 1913-1916 Buffalo nickel proofs. The matte surface did not wear well and dies had to be replaced when the surface smoothed out - probably after a few hundred pieces were struck. (Old, mirror surface proof dies could be repolished and put back in the medal press.) The Coiner or an assistant examined all proof coins and removed substandard pieces. Pieces that were defective (clips, off-center, multiple strikes) were destroyed; pieces that were substandard but still good coin were tossed into the regular production bins and entered circulation. Mint totals are for the number of pieces accepted by the Coiner (as in the Guide Book), not the quantity sold (except in a few instances where that quantity is known). Matte proofs can be very deceptive, so follow the advice in Lange's book and have suspect pieces examined by someone with considerable experience.

Alright you Lincoln Lovers, here is what $100 bucks buys at a coin show, all of these together were $100. First off, here is my setup, I wanted to show you that it does not take anything fancy to take decent photos. I think my photos are good enough to grade off of, the color is really close and detail seems to show- Next is a 1932 MS something, replaced a brown one in my album, Here is a 1932-D, when I was going to put these into the album I realized I had a nice 32-D already, oh well- 1925-D- A struck through, I want one of each type of error, at least one of each major type. And last is an 1951 Proof! I know BadTad is going to be a little jealous, I think he needs this one for his set-

I also need the '51 proof. But very nice coins, the '51 looks cameo.

Nice acquisitions! I can't wait until we get another coin show in my area....it's all dried up for now and the local dealers don't have squat in Lincolns. How much did you get the 51 proof for? I NEED ONE!
Oh, did you see any 36 proofs at the show? If so, how much were they?

I paid $48, I think. It was listed as $55, I bought something else with it and he reduced the total. There were no 36 proofs at this show, in fact I do not think I have ever saw one at a show. I picked up a 33 BU red today for $22, it looks MS64-65 to me. I will be looking this weekend at the big show, 400 tables, for BU MS red Lincolns! I keep telling my self that I need to stop buying these things and organize what I have so I stop buying doubles. I am hoping to finally slow down at work and get the piles put away, pictures taken and doubles put up for sale.

Some great deals! Would you be willing to pick me up a 51 proof and/or a 32P BU?

No problem, I picked up the 32 for $14. If you want I will keep the prices to what I paid for mine. I did the same thing for Gary a little while ago, I will post pics of what I pick up and if you are satisfied I will send them off to you.
