Just received this coin.
there is soooo much going on with it. am not sure where to start. most interesting I guess is the small I in Gratia.
Die breaks galore. How did this die survive?
This might be very difficult to grade, but please try anyway.
thanks guys, any help is appreciated.

A nice looking coin but I'm skeptical about authenticity just to much that dont look right . The small I the , The rev crown looks strange , the rev rim at 6'o'clock looks flat ,Both rev and Obv rims - denticles look strange aswqell the flow lines look weird, but thats me.. If its real then you got a very nice high grade I would say AU 58 borderline 60.. I hope its a real one

I would say AU for grade but hard to tell.
I think what is throwing me off is it looks like it could possibly be a flip strike. I say that as it looks like over the laurels that it has the resemblance of one of the leafs in the field as well as other markers. It is hard to tell without coin in hand and good angle.

The pitting or lumpiness worries me for such a high grade coin-----electrolytic counterfeiting gone wrong?
The striations do not appear to be the " woody effect".
This coin is sure going to be a lot of fun for me for the next couple of days. Regarding DEI----Simple doubling gives "little tails" on the bottom of the legends----very common with 1858 20 cents.
Regarding the I of gratia--a misaligned doubling to produce a " top tail"?

I am not sure why people are suspicious of this coin, everything seems legit to me of course I don't have the coin in hand so I don't know all the measurements nor the weight. The coin details check out just fine, Heaton mint with the proper obverse portrait 1 the ear being the easiest feature to verify it. It just seems like the die was at the end of its life, I am sure they had lower standards back then. The striations are proof that the coin was struck and displays how little the coin was circulated. I think its a beautiful gem and if its fake it definitely would have fooled me.

It looks good to me. Nice high grade. I just looked at my 1872 and I see some similarities with the "flow" from the letters.
