Earlier this week I picked up a 1955-s Roosevelt. Well worn
but 90%. Got it in change from a snack bar purchase.

Why? In 1964, you couldn't pick up a magazine without reading an article about coin investment. Like if you put away just a roll of each date and mint cent since 1909, you'd have enough money to send your kids to college, buy a new car, and move to a decent neighborhood. Humans being, well, human, it didn't take long for tens of thousands of them to figure that if buying a roll would do all that, then buying a bag, or ten bags, or twenty bags would only cost $1000 today, but would allow them to retire as billionaires. And if it works for cents, nickels would be 5x as good, etc. Instant coin shortage, crank up the presses. Almost 50 years later, bu bags of this ballast are still coming out of the woodwork. |

In today's change: 1959(P) Dime  The wear on the '72-D Ike is much more evident in hand than in my scan. The "dark areas" in the scan are the worn areas. Lack of luster appears to be entirely from wear, not corrosion or PMD(the other three Ikes have luster, the '77-D and '78-D still have nice cartwheel effect). In hand, the eagle's eye is 'gone', and there's considerable wear on Ike's hair and the eagle's chest feathers. This 1972-D Ike looks very similar to my VF-20 Morgans. Edited by DNA

My "received in change" haul today: Three 2010-D National Park Quarters: Yosemite (low AU), Yellowstone (high AU) and Grand Canyon (BU). 2003 U.K. One Penny (XF) 1941 (P) Wheat cent (XF-40) 2009-D LP2 and LP4 Cents (BU) (LP2 and LP4 are fairly rare to find in Denver circulation) 1942-P War Nickel (F-12, unfortunately it's been polished to a "charlie" sheen)

Around 9ayem yesterday, I went to the supermarket. As usual, I always check the Coinstar reject chute. There was a little pile, so I grabbed it all. 4 grubby Zincolns 1 1964d xf cent 1 1999p dime, looked bran new 1 1999 Nunavaut twonie au!
