I wonder if the 2009 coins will have any premium value in the years to come, specifically in uncirculated condition.

Today I received a 2020P Marsh Billings Rockefeller quarter.
I know it does not sound like much but it filled a hole in my folder.

Yesterday I made my weekly trip to the liquor/convenience store for weekend essentials. On a lark as I was checking out, asked the cashier if they had any strange coins. He pulled out a BIKE - '76D Bicentennial Ike. Yes, they are still out in circulation! Gladly traded him a dollar bill for it, and tossed it into the bucket of my others.

Nice Ike. A few years ago I stumbled into 18 Ikes (various dates) at my bank branch. Teller was eager to unload them.

In retrospect, I should have offered $2 so that the teller would hold things aside for me in the future. Next time I go in, I'll work out a deal with them - especially for silver.

JBuck would love that. Nice find. Haven't found anything truly remarkable in a while.

It had never occurred to me to ask cashiers if they have any strange or unusual coins. I'm going to cultivate a few relationships - it can't hurt!

Am I correct in thinking the USA has the oldest coins still in circulation of any country? Decimalization in 1966 in Oz means only post '66 coins in circulation. We also got rid of our 1c and 2c pieces a while ago. Much of Europe went the Euro, South America has had loads of inflation changes. But a 1944 Wheat penny is still fair game in USA. Amazing.

Quote: Am I correct in thinking the USA has the oldest coins still in circulation of any country? That is a good question. Quote: We also got rid of our 1c and 2c pieces a while ago. While we rid ourselves of the 2¢ coin a long ago, the perpetually pesky penny prevails.

Quote: Am I correct in thinking the USA has the oldest coins still in circulation of any country? Theoretically yes, practically I think you're more likely to find a pre-1900 coin in change in Switzerland than in USA. (AFAIK those two, with an outside chance of Canada, are the only ones where finding a pre-1900 coin in circulation is even theoretically possible without a major mix-up.)

IIRC, Switzerland has used the same design and composition for their 10 rappen coin since 1879.
