I think ICCS must have a grader with one red eye and the other brown it sure seems that way to me. I have 1 cent coins that look the same but some are Red and others designated as RB and then Trends has percentage guide to add to the confusion. Oh how I long for simpler days gone by when a rose still smelled the same by any other name :}

My preferred TPG is ICCS and I am a regular proponent of theirs on this board.

However, when it comes to grading 'Red', they are woefully inept and inconsistent.

I have never collected pennies and perhaps if I did, I wouldn't defend ICCS as much as I do.

Red, Red Brown ,Lustrous Brown, Brown Trace Red gets really confusing. These coins are really a great example of buying the coin and not the holder. I have a client who buys toned large and small cents in various shades and there are some incredible eye appeal coins. He says that for him way nicer than some so called reds with 85- 90 per cent lustre. I too agree with Doubleeagle, the grading companies have way different ideas on what is RED in a copper coin.

I should also add if you are collecting only 'RED' copper, then PCGS would be the preferred way to go.

Thanks doubleeagle I will take your advice on that idea. Good to know I'm not the only one that notices the inconsistencies from ICCS on this issue.
