Hey there everyone, I just found this morning, in a nickel roll from the credit union. Please feel free to send your feedback! Sorry about the Pictures but the queen is so faint and so weak.

Have a great day!

I think as with any error you would need to prove definitively that it happened at the mint. What kind of error do you think it is? Weak strike? Capped die? It appears maybe it is also slightly of center strike as well but that might just be the pictures. Are you certain it isn't coin rub or some other PMD? I can't tell by the pictures how circulated the coin is so this one is a head scratcher for me. There is no doubt that it is an interesting specimen and I will be watching this topic to see others opinions.

Great thank you, I am surprised no one else has commented. if it would be a PMD then the ear would be flattened too! it looks to good. In addition the ear is the highest point on the obverse so it is the highest points on the queen along with some of the hairlines. It is circulated but still an attractive coin.

Looks like a weak strike to me vs. capped die, but also looks like circulation may have also contributed to the weak fields. Is that a grease spot at the 4:00 mark of the obverse? Any weaknesses on the reverse at all?

no weakness on the reverse at all and no I do not believe that there is a grease spot near the bottom of the obverse. thanks for your input!

I'm suggesting the obverse was struck through 'grease' ... and is indeed a genuine mint error.

Its a fickle business working with errors, I'd say you assign a value you think its worth and prepare yourself to barter with a client who is interested. Errors are only worth what collectors are willing to pay so it depends how badly someone just has to have it. My experiences with errors like this collectors are pretty quick to scoop them up at around $25 but that doesn't mean that's what it is worth.

The images need to be bigger to get more precise, but I think it's Struck Through Grease as well.

I'd have to agree that it's stuck through grease. That's why the words and beads are so much sharper than the portrait.
