The upper forehead on this 1897 Morgan has a pretty substantial "divot" in it, there is no metal spread or smear, just missing metal. I'm wondering if it was Struck Through Grease or scrap. It doesn't look post-mint.... but what do I know?

Thanks for any input!

Rick

It has the "look" of being struck through an unknown fragment of a foreign material. Could be grease.

I'm guessing something more solid than grease - it seems to me that the end of the strikethrough in the forehead would be a lot less abrupt if it were grease. It would have tended to spread out more over such a broad area during the strike.
