Well I got a $25 refund check from my insurance company, and decided to buy a box of cents. Took me two days to open them all, but here are the results
20 wheat cents, the earliest was 1941
14 Canadian cents 1964-2002
1. 2000 Wide AM variety.
4. 2009 formative years.

I was surprised by the number of BU coins from 1962-1979 still floating around!

Awesome finds on the wheats! I totally agree about BU pennies pre-1979.

Great finds. I will pickup a few rolls now and then but always wanted to do a whole box.
Those early BU's must be someone cashing in their penny jar.

Good numbers on the LWCs. And a WAM on the first box is a real bonus!

I think I got lucky because the teller had $25 in pennies in her drawer someone had just turned in!

Honestly, that is a normal box. And after 4 boxes or so you should find a BU Wheat cent (normal dates 41-59).

i would say that is probabbly a bit above (normal) averages.
i have found only 1 - 2000 WAM. (after probably 30+ boxes of cents searched).
i am finding less that 15 wheats (common dated) per box.
14 sounds a bit above average (normal) for canadian cents,

as in any statistical norm - the larger the sample size - the more it will reflect the actual norm. a small sample size could appear completely out of the ordinary.

example ... I found 4 Buffalo nickles in one box. after about 12 boxes - my total was 8. so if I wanted to go by the 1 box ... and call that average... it would appear that I was well above the reality...
