This is the first time I ever seen a PL nickle tarnish with a white film on both sides of the coin.1982 Nickles were known to have different metal compositions and can turn copper color.This nickle for some reason turned white.Any idea what the white film would be? I posted a clean nickle to compare and thought I would share.

I'm guessing it's that color because of the amount of air in the plastic. I do know that in the '82 proof sets the nickel turns a nice golden color toning.

Yes I agree with the above, sometimes it reacts with the oxygen, but who knows, is it really white?

Perhaps it is "dust" from a cleaning agent of the planchet or plastic that deposited. Or an air impurity at the mint.
