I know lots of online and ebay dealers use "stock" photos for some bulk sales of coins, but this is a first for me!!

Whether the dealer knows it or not - the "stock photo" being used here, for a 1969 nickel dollar, is one of the low-resolution images of a 1969 dollar struck on a 50-cent silver planchet. The colour caught my eye immediately, and a closer look shows that it is not quite fully struck in collar.

Here is one from the Heritage archives:

This one is mine, (photographed myself through the PCGS holder):

There are about 8 of these off-metal dollars known. This stock photo on ebay looks like the one that was graded PL-64 by PCGS... part of me was tempted to hit "Buy It Now"... just to be a trouble-maker...

Like you said, he has a lot of them and used a stock photo. Have you contacted him to give him a heads up?

$8 for the entertainment though, cheaper then a movie.

Roger, I asked this seller to supply me an actual photo of the coin. This was his reply " Hi,

Scan is always sharper and clearer than the actual coin. Coin is in Uncirculated condition from 1969 year.

Thank you "

That said I would tell everyone to stay away

Oh for sure.... this seller definitely "mined" the image off the internet somewhere... the ironic thing is that the image they chose, was of a rarity, and not a normal 1969 dollar...

At least I thought it was amusing...
