i picked up this bargain bin coin, pretty much because I thought it would be fun to ID it and it was pretty cheap. anyway, it has been difficult to nail down. thanks to TIF, I know it's marcus aurelius (i suspected commodus) based on the legend on the obverse. the reverse legend is unreadable, but appears to be "apollo on horseback" as in this provincial coin from thyateira, but is a large sestertius. mine is only 22 mm and 4.6 g.
from wildwinds..

cant link picture I guess, here...look at

So, are you asking us not to destroy your fun?
The obverse inscription is a bit odd, can't find any with this ending.
Some of the reverse inscription seems to be legible, bottom right quarter - perhaps a better picture of that might help.

well, it moved from fun into frustration. so yes....destroy that please.
it matches up with the Alexandrian obverse legend (thanks TIF) for marcus aurelius, but that picture is as good as it look in hand. I suspect this one is going to be some very obscure coin or maybe an unlisted provincial.

Nice coin C.M.
I always like coins with horses on them and this one is clear and has 'action' in that there is a rider.
I must be going back to my 'Cowboys and Indians' days.

Alexandrian obverse legend

In that case try check in Milne or Geissen, according to a German website the emperor sitting on a horse walking right was used on Alexandrian coins including those of Marcus Aurelius - don't forget that several denominations were minted at Alexandria, not only tetradrachms.
