Seller just sold an Aelia Euxodia seen here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151446219173?nav=SEARCHIt is likely that he/she used the same template for the Constantia coin and didn't realize that part of the previous description wasn't totally deleted

Quote: I am not bidding, merely curious. If it is really that coin, maybe you should bid. Sear has it as number 16633 (only coin of Constantia) and values it at 2,300 Pound in fine.

This is one of those mistakes that might make the coin sell for less.

It looks ancient, but is it her? If the portrait is not the same, were there more than one issue?

All the legends match and the coin does look ancient. But the bust is not her, nor is it in the style know for her. This is either a very well made fake or an unknown type of her. It might be worth bidding on it.

I say this very tentatively and only as a suspicion, but the finish on that coin and even the style of the photograph, reminds me of the coins sold by the notorious fake seller Saxby's-coins. It may be mere coincidence but....

I have compared this coin to the Vetriano. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Very-scar...em2344567a6bFirstly. The Constantia. If you look at the second picture, the reverse, using ebay's high magnification there are a lot of black dots and what appear to be pits. Secondly. The Vetriano. If you look at the first two pictures, the same black dots and pits appear, suggesting that both coins came from the same place.

Search under 'completed listings' and you will also see a Romulus coin that to me is clearly fake and likely a die match on FAC fake reports. Why would a seller be auctioning off a Constantia coin on ebay if it was such a rarity or possibly even an unknown type. Hmmmmm......a world renown auction house might realize a very handsome price.....but, oh wait, we don't want any expert eyes scrutinizing this coin. Looks to me like he is 'salting' his ancient artifacts with a batch of fake coins.

Actually no. He bought a job lot from a dealer, the Constantia and Vetranio are all that are left. He has pulled both coins from the auction in order to have them checked out. He is not one of the bad guys.

Hmm...I wonder where he got them from. That was one of the possibilities that occurred to me when I mentioned Saxbys Coins. I have seen him palm off fake Vetranios and Constantias.

He says it wasn't Saxbys. I couldn't find the Romulus.

With all of this talk about Saxby's I wonder if his 'modern' stuff is O.K.
In my early days of collecting I bought some 'tenners' and 'fivers' from him. (Nothing ancient).
