Clearly the people running up the prices are in on the crime.
If you have enough brains to know how rare and valuable a coin is, you'd have enough brains to recognize a fake when you see it.

W.C. You have to remember. It is NOT a counterfeit coin. It is a FAKE coin made in China AS A FAKE. Nothing wrong there.
Now we have a seller who is hoping to fool buyers into thinking it is genuine, by not describing it as a FAKE coin or as 'PLAY MONEY'.
The fault is with the (American?) seller, not the Chinese manufacturer who sells them at the right price.

All fake coins are supposed to have COPY written on them in big letters. The reason that you make fake very rare coins is clear, they might say they're making it as "play money" but it's pretty obvious what the real intent is. I agree the seller is terrible for doing this, but the manufacturers are also at fault.

Here's a question--when ebay removes an auction, should the seller retain their "100%" rating.  I realize those are buyer ratings, but it doesn't tell the whole story. It's like a potentially expensive scam is 'off the books'. |

The US laws dealing with counterfeits and marking requirements for reproductions do not apply in China and their laws do not make creating fakes or reproductions of other countries coins illegal. The people breaking the law are the people who buy them and import them into the country. |

$3850--why hasn't ebay pulled this auction? You would think after getting caught selling one fake, ebay would pull this one too. This thing looks like it came off the press yesterday--not 218 years ago.  Edited by DVCollector
