To keep everyone interested busy, here quite good scan from a not so good coin:

Wonder who will be the first to properly identify it and match my attribution number.

I have no idea. Maybe if the pictures were a little bigger.

Its a Saxon styca, but can't tell who exact from the photos. Try taking it out of the holder and photographing it again.

Sorry 'pishpash' (and the others), best I can do.
The reverse (which is the left one) looks just as good as it gets and the obverse is slightly worse.
Wouldn't be a puzzle if the coin were in a better condition.

My guess would have been a Continental issued Saxon Copper, or one of the early pre British kingdom coins.

Could it be something like a Northumbrian Viking sceat?

Congrats 'aiglet7', you got it. 'Valecrucis' you were close but it's not Viking nor is it Saxon (for the other close ones).

Northumbria was an Anglian Kingdom at the time of Aethelred II.

Here from the 20th edition of volume I of the Standard Catalogue of British Coins:

Identification-Puzzle

Aethelred II, first reign (841-844) AE sceat.

Could now put it into the 'Alphabetic ancients game' but I will pick another ruler for that.

Great challenge there Medieval. I am happy to have just been a little close. Glad you will be joining in the game too! I look forward to seeing what you produce there!
