My first is a hemilitron from Himeria.  And my second is my favorite bust, the "heroic bust" of Hadrian.  A denarius of Hadrian minted in Rome in 118 AD. 18.93 mm, 3.14 g. Obv: IMP CAESAR TRAIAN HADRIANVS AVG, laureate, heroic bust right, draped left shoulder Rev: P M TR P COS II, Pax standing left, holding branch and cornucopiae, PAX in exergue Attribution: RIC 44a; BMC 78; RSC 1015 |

Honorius This arrived this morning and husband is out with both cameras, so I had to take this with my phone. A Hormizd IV "Imitation" dated clearly to year 11 or AD 581 Bhalk Afghanistan, the year the city fell to the Hephthalite Huns. The countermark here is attributed to Phromo Kesaro a Hunnic king ruling in the 8th century AD.  |

I highly suspect that "older than the year 1600" does not include coins from the year 1600; in which case, I only have one coin to post for this day...   Honorius, three emperors reverse. Bought as a supposedly uncommon type - apparently common but cool anyway. Oh, and sorry for the bad photos - the darned thing's tiny. |
