I am sure that the members (and their comments) have only your welfare at heart and don't wish you to fall foul of any law (rule).
They only want you to check it out with the appropriate authorities to ensure that you are available to us for many years to come.
We care.

I apologise for my mistake Monkeybean. I am not a detectorist and am simply trying to interpret the laws as I found them during an online search. The link I shared did not distinguish coins from all other finds. This is motivated by a sense of incredulity that someone could find a valuable and potentially historic coin, yet not have to report it simply because it was found alone. I was apparently mistaken to have developed the impression that you were reluctant to report your discovery. I am glad to hear that you will, at least, report it to your FLO as after all this great coin is part of the history of the land.
If you wish I will remove any comments I made which revealed my doubts about your conduct....or if you prefer, for the sake of an honest historical record, I will leave them standing to expose my guilt.

Guys, I mean 'Monkeybean' & 'Valecrucis' , please don't try and confuse us non British people with specifically British acronyms. Was wondering what FLO meant. In the end I was able to work it out, so here is for everyone a link which explains how (some) things work in Britain: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portab...ities_SchemeUseful if you want to travel over there for some metal detecting; and yes, it explains what FLO means as well.

No hard feelings or harm done , there is not benefit in not reporting finds , in fact getting provinence is very beneficial to a detectorists collection .

I am glad there are no hard feelings. I meant well and as TC said, my mistake was well intentioned.
Congratulations on your coin. It is a genuinely wonderful find.

Thanks, Med. Good! Now we can get on with congratulating M.B. with what is an incredible 'find' that ANY of us would give our right arm, (well our partner's right arm) for. M.B. THAT is what keeps us going - whether we are 'out there', or, we are in the 'Auction Houses'. You give us HOPE!

WE are so lucky over here in the US. WE have the "Garbage" Act that says "anything you find is likely garbage so you can keep it" AND you get to explain to your wife why you spend all day digging in the dirt for garbage

Now that's a good reason for the U.S. to take over the world.
During my next round of talks with B.O. tomorrow, I will raise it.

Well it appears as with any law there is some gray area that is open to different interpretation. Here is a case in point. What constitutes an artifact? I consider an ancient coin dug up an artifact, but in this case it is not. We were as pointed out only concerned for your benefit.

US & Ozzies this find doesn't happen every day and I live and detect in Suffolk which is meant to be one of the better areas. We have the site of a Roman fort 400yds away.

MB hope you have calmed down, stopped shaking (you can continue grinning) congratulations on a fabulous find. Are you going to keep it, or sell it? Bit too rich for my pocket, but just wondering.

Thanks for all the comments , I'll be keeping it , I'm not a seller as I value everything I find far too high as it takes so long to find it .
