Uh, for your information Dipper, it's genuine having already been certified and graded as authentic by PCGS as BG-423.

THANKS...EGG ON MY FACE. I have been on another 2 sites that I prefer all week and decided to check in here. I did not realize I was on page #1 when I made my "eager-beaver" posts to correct some very bad info. I don't take cheap shots BUT IMO there is some really ignorant and misleading information out there. Thankfully, some folks smarter than I made the corrections and I wasted my time w/useless info while trying to help the OP.
PS To Australia...I'm presently doing deep research on 8 Rls. You and Bob really get into it and sooner or later I plan to join the fray. Don't know on whose side as of yet...

I read 4 pages of this to come to an awesome conclusion. Congrats to the OP.
My question is OP stated this coin was with 2 others, "It was in a pouch with another round 1854 Cal Gold piece and a 1873 S Quarter Eagle gold piece. "
What happened to those 2 coins?

The other 1854 gold piece was also graded and genuine. The 1875 was sold raw. Thanks again!

I do not appreciate those shrewd remarks about my posts. As I stated, I don't know much about California gold, and I, as well as the OP, were under the impression that it was a 1854 Dahlonega gold dollar (or a copy of one). I immediately corrected myself and told the OP the $15000 figure was likely for a Dahlonega piece, not a California gold.
Your method of taking cheap shots by pulling the posts out of context reminds me of the Dimwits on YouTube who feel they need to attack everyone else so that they feel better about their insecurities and the mediocrity in which they languish.

As I wrote earlier, I started replying to posts on the first page w/o knowing there were 3 others to go... my mistake.
Nevertheless, IMO Posters who give opinions on subjects they claim to know nothing about should READ and NOT TYPE.
If I would have followed my own advice, I would have learned about "pages 2,3" and not typed anything. Unfortunately, for me...Just reading absolutely uninformed opinions about an obvious genuine piece got my fingers moving to correct the "damage." Thankfully, there are posters more informed than I who had already done it! :)
