Quote: So you either have the entrance fee, or you raise those "already pretty high" table fees. Not sure how much people pay in other parts of the country but by me, at all those shows we have, table fees are $50 a day. Electrical for lighting is free too but dealers must provide own lighting if they want direct lighting on the tables.

I never minded paying the $3 fee. What I will agree with, though, is that some of these local shows have nothing to shake a stick at. The ones that have something nice, well, half of those are overpriced. Of course, I give my business to the ones who work with me. :)

Prices for the Grapevine Texas show:
70 DEALER TABLES Price $245 single, $365 corner. Early Bird badges $25.00.
Assuming 8 corners (if I recall that is correct).
58 regular tables = $14,210 12 corner tables = $4,380 Total table rental take $18,590 assume 25 early bird tickets $625
That's over $19,000
According to my research the room rents for $2125/day, likely less as they show promoters have a deal to put the show on for multiple dates in the past and future, I know there is additional costs such as the police officers they hire for security, postage and printing for advertising, etc. but believe me I think they are making plenty before charging the $3.00/person entrance fee. I may be off in my figures, but not by a whole lot.
I believe they also provide rental lights and show cases to the dealers, they probably only break even on those as there are costs in transporting and storing them during off time, though the show has been running long enough to have more than paid for the case and lamp purchases.
I just HATE paying what I amount to a "extortion fee" at smaller shows like Grapevine, Texas show. For years I've attended small shows all over the country and the only ones I don't mind paying a small fee to are shows put on by local coin clubs that help keep them running the rest of the year, in fact a lot of the club shows actually loose money from my experience. Once promoters move in they definitely are making money, or the promoters wouldn't be putting them on.

I would agree those table rentals sound high for a smaller 70 table show. That room rent also sounds too low for it to be a convention center, more like a hotel ballroom. Back when I ran the KY state show in 1980 - 82 it was in a small convention center and the room rent was $3,000 a day back then.
