yes through my experience it is normal, and I believe is part of the original design.

I thought it was an error in the coin, but all of them have it in 2006, then back to normal for the other years.

Massive double die! And they did not catch it for the entire run (or purposely left it so they wouldn't be hoarded)?

I didn't know they still used the squeeze method. I thought they made dies using computers now.
