I'm doing a custom 19th 20th century album with Canadian circulating silver coins. I'd like to include, obviously, dollars, half dollars, quarters and dimes. Looking at the sizes in the album pages, I'm wondering if this is going to work well.

Dimes at 18.03mm so I'm hoping they will squeeze into an 18mm page or even a 17.9mm U.S. dimes page.

Quarters are 23.62-23.88mm. I'm hoping they fit in a 24mm page without rattling. U.S quarter page at 24.3mm is probably too big.

29.72mm Half dollars don't work well in US half dollar holders, so I'm assuming I better drop down to a 30mm page.

Dollars list at 36.06mm. Think they will fit in a 36mm slot?

What are other Canadian coin collectors doing to build albums? It seems like there is not very many dedicated options for Canadian coins. I'm trying to avoid cardboard 2x2 pages, but I guess that is plan B.

Dollar coins weren't minted until 1935. You can find lists of the rest at http://www.coinsandcanada.com/coins-prices.php Note the 20c coin from 1858 :-)

Oops! I meant 1900s, not 19th century. I guess I shouldn't make posts right before bed.

Honestly the first I've heard about silver nickels. Looking them up, they appear to be 15.5mm in dia. I'd probably only have 2-3 of those if I did pick up any.

This is the frustrating part of trying to build a custom album for more type-set collections! Who wants a whole page for a couple coins?

I've used these for CAN silver dollars--I like them--they fit well, are light and relatively inexpensive. Easy to fit over the coins, if you don't get the tops and bottoms mixed up. Almost like have a laminated coin when in there.

Silver 5 cent pieces about the same as the US half-dimes. Imagine a time when these had great value--before the bankstas ruled (ruined?) the world.

Thanks for the link. I'd really like them in an album, though. I have some in capsules, but I find them hard to organize that way.

Should be OK, just don't use PVC album pages.
Use mylar or polypropylene pages instead.

If these materials can't be found in the pocket sizes you require, try the standard album pages for cardboard mylar 2x2's. That way, you can record when and how much you paid for each coin. This approach also allows you to re-arrange your collection as it grows, whenever you like.
This page size also allows for 12 slab pocket slab pages for your better graded or more valuable coins, AND to keep your collection together.

i believe that you should be good to go in regards to the sizes, I have never experienced any moving around when there is a size too big.

Too small is no fun though!

I ended up just going with cardboard 2x2 and polypropylene coin binder pages. I just couldn't find any "real" album that wouldn't leave me with too many blanks.

I write up the information on the coin on the 2x2 which holds it. Some find that this makes the presentation of the collection look a bit scrappy.
If you are not happy with the presentation of your own hand writing, get yourself an adhesive label maker; It should improve the presentation of your collection quite a bit.

The presentation of slabs in slab album pages can look a bit awkward, but with some circumspection, a 12 slab album page could be included in an album with 20 2x2 pockets.

Yeah I've got the same issue I can't decide how to store my vast circulation coin collection. I do need to decide on some type of system. The sales are a great time to pick up supplies. CC & C have some very nice options, although some are kind of pricy. I have a hard time finding a particular circulation coin, because I have too many and they aren't organized. I've a bunch of silver nickels. I'm not crazy about the size, it's hard to take photos or see details without a loupe.

I guess this is why I also like the Nclt coins. Nice size canvass and it allows for more details. Plus most come with clamshells so I don't think about storage. My other issue I love the cherry or walnut display cases.

I love the designs until the 1930's they are incredible. I just don't like how small dimes and Pre 1921 silver nickels. I'm glad they increased their size. I'd be constantly losing nickels if they stayed the Pre 1921 size.
