This counterfeit seems to combine a 1799 obverse bust with the reverse small eagle from 1795-1797. Looks like some loser will be out $500+. Thank you ebay for protecting your customers.....NOT.

$510? That thing is so bad...I can't even see bids for $10.

The coin looks...too off-grey...

People should do research before bidding on potentially questionable coins.

I for one never would have known about the reverse small eagle not being used after 1797 off hand. I never knew there was a difference in eagle sizes, off hand. I'd imagine the Red Book shows it, but I've never paid close attention (nor have I had a real dying interest to pick up anything US that old yet). Needless to say, I can see where novices could get fooled by something like this.

Reported... maybe they will do something but probably not. They refuse returns and basically say if it is fake well sorry I win, you lose.

You don't know when the pic was taken, date can be changed arbitrarily. In any event the buyer can enjoy the fake.

If the buyer reports it is a fake and can prove it to ebay the seller will have the amount paid returned to him through the buyer protection policy from the sellers' Paypal account. If there are no funds in that account the funds will be collected from subsequent sales until the refund is paid back to ebay.

Hate to blame the 14 bidders but that is one of the most obvious fakes I have ever seen. Who puts $500 at risk without doing some perfunctory research? At least Google the coin in question.
