DEVLEC Pillar of the Community Canada 3234 Posts	Posted 11/22/2014 4:21 pm With metals, I would guess that the cracks would start off as minor cracks and would proceed to complete failure. Many here study the "crack propagation" and can tell you the stage your cent was at by counting the die cracks and adding #'s to each successive crack found on individual cents. (ie: 1.2.3.4) as the cracks progressed and/or new cracks started.) The Dr.Haxby site explains his cents this way as does Rob Turner and his text and descriptions in them. We always see progressive stages as the cracks proceeded until complete failure.. and the die was sent into "forced retirement..It probably did get used to complete failure,(ie: the die broke into many pieces) Report this Post to the Staff
