Submitting-The-2014-American-$1-Coin-And-Currency-Set-To-NGC
The following is a press release from NGC

Submit 2014 American $1 Coin and Currency set for special COIN AND CURRENCY SET pedigree.

The US Mint has announced that the 2014 American $1 Coin and Currency Set will go on sale on November 20. Priced at $13.95, this affordable set includes an Uncirculated 2014-D Sacagawea dollar and an Uncirculated Series 2013 $1 Federal Reserve Note.

These sets may be submitted to NGC and PMG to receive the special pedigree "COIN AND CURRENCY SET." NGC and PMG are independent members of the Certified Collectibles Group.

To receive this special pedigree, special submission instructions must be followed.

Submission Instructions

1. If submitting the coin to NGC and the note to PMG the set must be sent intact to either NGC or PMG. Both an NGC Submission Form and a PMG Submission Form must accompany the set.

2. If submitting only the coin to NGC or only the note to PMG, only the panel with the coin or note should be submitted along with the appropriate grading company submission form. The panel must be intact.

3. Write "COIN AND CURRENCY SET" in bold letters on the NGC and/or PMG Submission Form(s).

4. The coin must be submitted under the NGC Modern Special grading tier. The five (5)-coin minimum will be waived. The default label will be the NGC Sacagawea label. The 2014-D Sacagawea $1 from the Coin and Currency Set is NOT eligible for the NGC Early Releases or NGC First Releases designations.

5. The note must be submitted under the PMG Economy grading tier. The five (5)-note minimum will be waived.

6. If you would like the Mint packaging returned, select "Return packaging" on the submission form(s).

Dealer and Elite Collectors Society members should contact Scott Heller for bulk submissions.

If the coin does in fact have the Enhanced Uncirculated finish the C&C's set packaging claims it has, it will be easily identifiable even outside of its OGP.

@bobby131313 Thanks for the instructions. Alternatively, folks can buy these NGC graded SP69 ER from MCM at a special price of $99: https://www.moderncoinmart.com/2014...eleases.html?

$99?

I'm in the wrong line of work.

You could buy 3 sets from the mint for $42 & roll the dice. May end up with a 70 for your trouble.

69 is an absolute bare minimum expectation from a Mint product prepared for sale as a collectible. So, there's that. It's likely, like many current Mint issues, there'll be a large plurality of 70's. How do you think they can guarantee 69's?

What really gets me is the total dependence on something non-numismatic - the packaging - for any added value. It is, therefore, so demand-dependent that no price could ever infer a trend beyond a few months. $99 is simply too steep for what it's buying.

You guys are collectors. You get this. The value, though, is being held up by a large number of non-committed buyers who might well move on to the next collectible fad next year.

Thank you for the replies guys. Much appreciated.

@CopperCastle Yes, but that's a gamble. The point I wanted to make is that one will be hard-pressed to find the same set in the same grade at the price of $99 elsewhere. This is now assuming a direct buy. One could buy 3 sets and take the self-submit route, but there are no guarantees.

@SsuperDdave Yes, there could be a large plurality of 70s, but that's not the point I wanted to make (see above).

Many collectors, rightly or wrongly, do indeed take into consideration packaging when they place a value. I can understand if this is annoying to you and probably others, but needless to say, folks should have the freedom to buy what they like and like what they buy. In addition, I love the fact that by large no individual collector sets the value the market places on something and rightly so.

"The value, though, is being held up by a large number of non-committed buyers who might well move on to the next collectible fad next year" â€" Very true, but if you want a 69 coin and a GEM note now, despite what the flippers are doing, you will be hard-pressed to get it for cheaper considering the NGC submission fees and cost of P&P, especially if you're sitting like me in Africa of all places. I mean, self-submit brings no guarantees. The $99 price also comes with free domestic shipping within the States.

Thus, if you or anyone can place a more solid deal on the table at a better price, stripped of speculation, I will be all ears.
