Hey, I am brand new here, but have been a collector for 25 years. I recently have been making better money, so have been diving into some gold. I picked up an 1882 S $5 gold, but the S is S/S, a clear double. Will this add value to the coin?

Not too likely. The number of people who actually COLLECT gold coins is small. The number that collect date and mint plus varieties is much smaller yet. So most varieties on gold coins don't command much of a premium.
