This one actually has 1888/7? in the title.
It however is not this infamous coin.
I do believe however it could be a low grade S-5a.
Just wanted to see if any of you agree.

I see that bit the arrow points to, and I can see how it might be interpreted as an RPD (or the 8/7)
For the S-1, the dates in the wrong position, but also for the S5a. I think I almost see an 8/8 in the last digit.
However, I can't find a match in my Snow guides, and with that much damage it probably doesn't matter anyway...

Thanks DVC I thought it was fun looking at. The S5a was the closest I could come up with.
The date position looks to be right. And I think I can see the die crack on the REV. through the shield.

Granted, the coin's pretty battered up, and I'm just eye-balling the position of the "1" to the bust point--what do you see?
The base of the last 8 isn't opened up like the S5. But too bad it's a cull, because that last 8 is interesting...

Nope you are right when pasting the pics side by side. I'm still working on that. I was looking it over again last night. I am not sure which variety it could belong to. You're right. It is interesting though.

Thanks for posting those pictures to compare. That's a great tool. The 1 is certainly off. Plus the seller thinks it has VG details which I can't agree with either.
