How can you tell which are Mint Rolled and which are Bank Rolled? I have been given 20 rolls that are folded closed, 1 roll that is rolled closed and 23 rolls in plastic. I was curious about the folded closed rolls so I checked 2 of them. Each roll had all the same state and mintmark. They looked to be possibly circulated by the tarnished edges.

The folded rolls are not bank rolls. They have been home rolled. Possibly sorted for best quality or collected and sorted at some time. the white one is a bank roll. Can't speak to the plastic one.

In getting small dollar coins from my bank, and I have seen coins in both types of the paper rolls. The folded ones may be privately rolled or my bank uses those. I believe the N.F String & Sons wrapper is a distributor where some banks get their coins.

Would you search each roll for possible errors or would they be worth more left alone? I am almost positive they have not been searched for errors at all.

Firstly....the mint does not roll coin for circulation. They are sent in bulk to processing facilities that then send them to banks. These companies are independent of the mint. Brinks would be one that comes to mind. Depending on the company they either use paper wraps (rolled at both ends) or those clear plastic tubes. Ones that are folded over on one or both ends are done by a human being either at home or at a bank by a teller. The only Mint rolls sold are for collector purposes and are clearly marked they are from the mint.
