This is a common Courteau variety 311, identified by Charlton's
as NS-2C1. F-15, perhaps VF-20.

Thanks, I expected you to come up with details.
You collect only North American coinage and tokens?
Or do you venture into other areas as well?

Doctor Courteau identified three varieties of the 1840 ONE PENNY.
Variety 311 has 7 fringes of hair below the ear, 309 has 5 fringes,
whereas 310 has 4 fringes. These are identified in Charlton's as
NS 2C1, NS-2C2, and NS-2C3 respectfully.

My sole numismatic interest is Canadian colonial tokens, Canadian
decimal coinage, and related numismatic reference materials (books).

Thank you for you insight.

Hope you will get your collection as complete as you want.
Do you intend to publish something on the subject or did you already?
