Hi,I am a new member and specifically signed up because I just came into possession of an 1804 US silver coin, while I was in Tibet (China). I need help on evaluating it to find out if it is authentic...or what it is? I appeciate everyone's help, in advance. JJHIGH

my bet is its a 1804 Morgan dollar Chinese counterfeit, China sells them on about every street corner for like a dollar or so and they are littering ebay with these forgeries also. So without seeing a picture and going by the information given chances are good its a counterfeit instead of a authentic coin

Image: 1804-7.jpg58.53 KBThanks for the responses, and especially the website that showed authentic vs. counterfeit. It is clear to me that my coin is a counterfeit (which I 99.9% knew), but attached are some photos for educational sake...comments welcome. What an interesting counterfeit. They didn't even put the denomination on it!

I agree, I have never actually seen a counterfeit like that one, not sure it was actually made to deceive like most since they didn't go through any details to get it close to the original. The Original Bust dollars minted by the US Mint didn't have denomination on the Obverse or Reverse either

It could be some kind of token.
Although, Since it came from China, it probably isn't real.
Just curious to know, what is the size and weight of the coin?

weight is 1 z. and size is 1.75" diameter. Appears to be all silver. I also got these coins at the same time, from the same woman: 1906 silver dollar, 1 oz...I have 3 of those, and 2 1921 siler dollars...all U.S. Now I am wondering if they could be fake, too.

I'll guarantee you the 1906 dollars are fake. The US didn't strike dollars in 1906, and all of the ones I have seen are based on the US one oz silver eagle and are struck from dies that are altered from 1986 to 1906. SInce the 1804 is fake, and the 1906's are fake, what do you think the odds are on the 1921's? And by the way, the fakes are not made of silver either.
