last week I had to break a five. she gave me 3 loons and a toon. I saw the loon on the top obverse was clean old style so I took it flipped it over... old style 2012. then 2 days later I take some change out of my change jar,(not checked yet), and there's another one. someone must have broken a roll around here lately or something. then I had someone pay me with a 1974 series $2 bill. folds, but still.

Any chance that a pic or two can be posted of the loonie? I would like to better understand what is being described.

this is another one I found a while back. I used it for comparison on the one I was asking about. I believe 3rd pic down. if you use the search bar for old style loonie, or old style twonie, you will find more info. no security features on these and old style metals, not multi-layered like the new ones.

I must have been lucky to get 20 of the 2012 Toonies, The loonies on the other hand I've only managed 2 aside from what I have in sets.

I'm near Windsor Ontario and they were in circulation here. Maybe the portion headed west ended here?

Here are my 2012 Old Style examples.

A-Good-Week

For the remainder of 2012 the date was put
on the obverse and a maple security feature was
added to the reverse. This picture is of a 2013
Loonie (doubling on legend) for comparison.

A-Good-Week

This thread was from the intro of the new
2012 Loonie and Toonie.
