I see these advertised for sale and described as silver, when in fact most look like pewter. This one although harshly cleaned, does appear to be silver. The seller made no comment on the metal. Does anyone have some history on these?

Many thanks:

I think they are made of nickel silver (copper/nickel/zinc)

I couldn't find a reference for the material, but managed to find some other facts:
This one was made in 1902 at the Japan Mint, on or around January 17.
There is a note apparently saying that it is the first time they engraved someone's portrait.
approximate measurements:
diameter 23mm
thickness 2mm
weight 5.2g

Assuming a perfect cylinder the density would be 6,257 kg/m^3
