Hello. I liked this coin because it looks very clean, and the details appear to be very clear. I can never tell if one of these is cleaned. I thought maybe I saw an old cleaning, but wasn't sure. Do you think it would get a "cleaned" details grade? What grade would you give it? Thanks. Edited by scottk 11/28/2014 10:12 pm

Based on your pictures, I'd have to say this coin was cleaned at some point then darkened. The reverse has the tell tale signs of this. I'd put it at VF25 details.

Yep, it looks cleaned. It appears just a little too shiny for the grade.

It's not so much the color or shine - I know how tough copper is to image correctly in that aspect - but the crud around AMERICA which makes me think it's been cleaned in the past. Doesn't make it an unworthy coin.

Interesting Ssuperdave.
I notice that area of the rim is also the only part of the coin that shows any clean copper - a very small notch, as though something happened to it right there.

I say cleaned or damaged somehow. The surfaces look slightly granular and the color for sure is off.

I am at VF 30 cleaned. Not sure about recoloring.
