Hello, I was wondering has anyone bought world coins from the FUN shows in FL ? If so how are the prices compared to eBay/Heritage etc.. ? I know there will be lot of dealers but not sure how many world coins dealers usually turn up and if the coins are pricey. I am thinking of visiting January show but don't want to spend around $500 for flight/hotels etc.. if I can get a good deal on coins.

I have never visited Winter FUN, but have attended Summer FUN twice.
Yes, there were a few dealers selling world and some even ancient coins, about 20 % of the dealers in attendance I would say. However, I found their prices fairly high, so that any hopes of finding 'good deals' were quickly dashed. I did find one or two coins, but by and large I have found much better deals on world coins in my area of interest either at auction in both the US and EU, or at coin shows in EU.
I was a bit disappointed actually. You may have better luck at Winter FUN which is a larger show, I hear.

Thank you for the response. It is good to get feedback from a collector in Germany. I was thinking about online auctions and MA shops in particular. I collect world crowns and its very rare that I find any of these for a reasonable price in my local coin shows. I was hoping I might get lucky at FUN. In case you collect crowns, any recommendations for online and auction houses ?

I have been to the Fun show before and I will be there again this year. Like any show there are some foreign but US coins are seen in far greater numbers. I know a few dealers who will be there that have decent material at reasonable prices.

If you are looking for under market bargains you are setting yourself up to buy fakes. Most of the lower priced "bargain coins" are where I hunt for counterfeits. I have gotten some very good counterfeits at the FUN show as well.

With this number of dealers (several hundred) almost everyone can find something. It is also the benefit of seeing dealers to see what sells and to look at large inventories EVEN if some are overpriced.

Unless you will break the bank getting there - I would recommend the show for everyone interested in coins.

I have been to the Winter FUN Show several times and have purchased multiple pieces for my world crown collection while there. I believe the purchase price I paid for each was fair and reflected the market at the time.

I concur with swamperbob, the FUN Show is a recommended event if your travel costs are anywhere near reasonable.

Plonker - From my understanding the FUN show is mostly US. The NY Show runs at the same time and is all World/Ancient. All depends what you are looking for. I collect world crowns in higher grades (slabbed) - no bargains unless you do the legwork yourself in Europe and buy raw or have someone look for you. Send me a PM if you seek more guidance.
