A customer cashed these in I told the customer that she should get these coins looked at by a pro.coin dealer because there worth more than 50 cent per coin. she didn't care she said all she wants to do is to get cash so she can get gas and buy some food. So we started talking and she said the coins belong to her father who just passed away & the only reason she came to the bank was that the coin star machine didn't accept half dollars & she just dump into the coinstar $385 worth of quarters, dimes, nickels & pennys that belong to her father! My heart sunk big time image all the silver coins that were lost to that darn machine. I have way more better pics that really show off the luster but I'm have trouble uploading my pics its a darn shame. but if you want to check them out go to you tube and check out my vid I made showing off these coins my channel is 831 mani I have six vidz all showing off my pick up I got from work (all '64) (all '65) (all'66) (all '67) (all '68) (all '69)

That's a sad story, I can only wonder what treasures are now lost.

I have heard Coinstar keeps a percentage, so there could have more than $385 dumped in.

Nice pickup...and sad about the other coins... odd how many people just cash coin or bills in that have been passed down to them from a loved one or they received after a loved ones passing. You would think simple curiosity would lead you to see if they were worth more than face.

Please do not clean them. It will only hurt the value.

A proper dip in E Z Est would not be a big deal and would likely help some of those coins. Having said that, notice I said a PROPER dip. PROPER being the key word here. If you have no experience, I would highly suggest not doing so until you learn more.

They are all common bullion coins, so if you want to clean them up it will not affect the value. Acetone will remove surface grime but will probably not remove heavy discoloration/tarnish. If you want to dip them, most use what is called E-Z-Est (previously called Jeweluster) and can be purchased online for around $4.00 Normally you just need to dip the coin in it for an instant. I would not dip the Franklins since they have a nice original look. They are your coins so do what you want with them knowing they will likely never be worth more than the silver value. Nice pickup by the way. You can buy the dip here: http://www.wizardcoinsupply.com/pro...5-ounce.html

Check for vids on You tube. Search here on the forums. BUT, it is not just about dipping the coin. You have to know coins themselves. If a certain one is a good candidate or not. Learn how to determine if a coin is impaired and will work as a practice piece. It takes time and experience to be able to do it without ruining a coin. And there are many here who will disagree with me vehemently.

everyone thanks for the info. Picking up these coins got me back in to the game I've been collecting since 98 but stopped when the price of silver and gold got to high which affect the price I was willing to pay,

Coinstar does take halves but it usually will reject silver coins....and they do take out a percentage unless you get money back as a gift card for Lowe's, Target, Amazon etc.

Keep all ones in good condition, sell the rest for a good premium.
