1970 was not made for circulation, but was distributed in mint sets. It is 40% silver and can be purchased fairly cheaply. Anything after 1970 will only be worth face value unless it is uncirculated, and even at that is not worth a whole lot. The clad Kennedys as made for circulation are generally not really collectable.

I always keep Kennedy's I receive in change or get at the bank. I don't roll hunt Kennedy's so I don't have a bunch.. I probably have around $50 in clad Kennedy's and occasionally if I need a dollar or two I take a few but keep them mainly for fun but my start a date set when I finish a few other things.

Normally with clad halves I'd say spend 'em, but if they have some luster and nice toning it can't hurt to keep a few, especially if you want to put together a little date set. Also, as stated before, the 1970 D (no Philadelphia coin that year) was 40% silver, but only in mint sets, so it's really tough to find in circulation. Also 1975 doesn't exist as bicentennials were made in both '75 and '76.

Halves are a good series to collect from circulation. Barring the "not for circulation" issues (70-D, '87 P&D, everything 2002 and later), all years and mint marks can be found easily, even in high grades. It took me 2 boxes (100 rolls) to put together the entire circulating set, plus about a dozen of the NIFC halves.

Don't confuse 1964-1970 Halves with Quarter and Dimes. Those years halves were still made with silver, quarters and dimes ceased being made with silver in 1965.

One can always use a Kennedy set. I'd keep them all and fill it in. Also, don't "spend" the silver, it'll always have a higher value. If you don't want to build a set, put the silver in your doomsday cashe.

I would keep a set of uncirculated or AU but anything circulated you may as well spend. You will sometimes find enjoyment from the reactions you get from the cashiers.

Spend the cupronickel clads. They're 50 cents, nothing more, unless they are a doubled die or some other type of error coin.

Move them on in normal pocket change. That's what I did when I visited the 'States some time ago.
More of a problem is the circulating one cent coin. I think that they would be simply easier to just throw them away into the garbage, if you receive them in change. Much less of a problem if you do that!

I like the cents haha. The banks counter treats them all the same for me. They add up sorta fast.
Spend the halves unless you want a set. I'm collecting dollar coins out of circulation. I figured they could never be worth less than what I paid for them. Well except for inflation.

If about uncirculated hang on to one or two of each. Otherwise only 1964-1970 are worth saving.

It depends on the condition. If it looks like it had been set free from a Mint Set recently I'll keep it, but if it is in well circulated condition I'll spend it.

Yes, keep all clads you find. That way the rest of us will have fewer to deal with. I am beginning to think I should just get folders and fill them with all the coins from boxes and sell them as folder just to try to get them out of circulation. If I see another really fat rimmed 71D I think I will rip my hair out!
