is it worth collecting State Quarters from the first year? I have multiples of all five states. I have heard they are harder to get so I was just wondering.

I personally think they made many many more in the first years than the later years. but I'm not an expert on them. I have a few sets of them but they don't have much value over 25 cents unless it's the 90% silver ones.

Unless they are mint state coins, I'd spend them.

They are not hard to find. In fact there are millions circulating out there.

If you can sell them for more than you get them for, yes!

More like BILLIONS out there... the mintages for the 1st 3 years were over 4B each.

1999 4,430,940,000
2000 6,470,932,000
2001 4,806,984,000

after which they tailed off a bit. All told 34,797,600,000 plus another 636,200,000 of the territories.

As 1999 was the 1st year, they were saved more than typical and of those most are (near) mint state.

You want a real challenge? Pull a set of true XF/AU from circ. Not the run of the mill POG (Piece of Garbage) you find, but honest XF/AU coins.

I still get a high-AU or even MS State Quarter in my change every so often, so a higher-grade circulation-find set is still possible. I have found BU Delaware and Connecticut Quarters in my change, this year.

If about uncirculated hold on to a few of them. According to the Red Book they can be worth a small premium, but it's really a waiting game to see if they do.
