To determine if it is indeed silver goes way beyond just a rim inspection. What does it weigh (accurate to a tenth of a gram) would be a good start. It is very unlikely that it is indeed silver as this coin would be two years removed from the last year that a silver half was minted, and of that, it was a 40% clad coin that still shows a clad looking edge to it (most of the time). Close ups of the rim would be in order. I would love to see it turn out to be the real thing, but your chances are remote at best.

Here we go again. A 40% silver Half would weigh 11.5 grams. A clad Half weighs 11.34 grams. The tolerance range for these coins overlap, so the weight is not conclusive. It may, however, be persuasive. Did you do the tissue test? Did you do a drop test?

Click on the tissue test link in Scurry64's post, if it passes the tissue test then more photos would be needed, especially the rim and both obverse and reverse of the coin.

one of the easiest ways to do the drop(ring) test is to balance the coin in question on your little finger and then tap it on the rim with another coin. It should give off a sweet clear high pitched ring like a nice small bell. Being that you say you have some Franklin halves on hand you have a perfect coin to compare the "ring" to

Here is your conundrum....we can't really give you an estimate on value as they don't exist. 1971D and 1977 40% error coins exist but I am not aware of any 1972 coin ever being verified. What you probably have (at best) is a clad coin plated in silver. In your close up edge shot it appears I can see some copper peeking through. This has me leaning on a silver plated clad coin which has no added value above face.
