PCGS-Important-Service-Announcement-For-2015
The following is a press release from PCGS

It's been a busy and very positive year for the rare coin market. We hope you are enjoying and benefiting from the positive market environment. We've also been very busy at PCGS, adding and improving services and greatly expanding the online market information we provide for all of you.

We hope you enjoy our grading services and offerings along with our online market information as much as we enjoy bringing them to you. As always, everyone at PCGS is committed to offering great customer service and helping you in any way that we can.

Effective January 1, 2015 the Following Changes to Our Services and Fees Will Be Made

PCGS Secure will now be available for an additional fee of $5 per coin on any standard service. PCGS Secure will not be listed as a separate service and will instead be an option in the Fee Calculation column. (The maximum declared value allowed per coin for standard submissions will remain at $49,999.) Just remember that all Secure fees are $5 more per coin than the standard service fee.

Variety service fee will be reduced to $18 per coin.

The Walkthrough service level fee will be $125 per coin for standard submissions ($130 per coin for Secure).

The Express service level fee will be $60 per coin for standard submissions ($65 per coin for Secure).

The Show (on-site grading) service level fee will be $125 per coin for standard submissions ($130 per coin for Secure).

The Show Express service level fee will be $250 per coin for standard submissions ($255 per coin for Secure). Handling fee will be $10 per order.

Collector Club Membership Fees and Offerings are Changing

Collector Club Membership fees have not changed in many years even though there have been several changes in available services and offerings. Effective January 1, 2015 the following changes in membership fees and offerings will go into effect.

Your current membership fees will not change as long as your membership continues to auto renew. New memberships and upgrades prior to January 1, 2015 will be at the current rates and offerings.

Hi,

I have never had a coin graded at PCGS and am unfamiliar with the details/cost of grading privileges when submitting a coin for grading while simultaneously being a member of the PCGS CoinFacts on-line reference page.

In summary, I just wanted to know if being a signed/current user of CoinFacts provided the member with any sort of special pricing or discounts when submitting a coin to PCGS for grading.

I would prefer to grade my own coins. That completely avoids grading and return shipping fees.
However that matters little, because I have never been tempted to sell any of my collection.
Nevertheless I have been collecting for over 40 years and confidence has never been a problem in the grading of my own coins; experience is the best teacher.

PCGS Photograde is of great assistance for U.S. coins, if you want to learn how to grade U.S. coins.
The grading of ancient coins is almost an entirely different discipline. That is why I had to learn how to grade coins for myself.

Slabbing has it's best use, if you want to sell coins; the buyer has a more reliable idea of what he is intending to buy.

IF I read it correctly you will stay at $199 next year if you use auto renew. That is $25 each for 8 submissions.

I have a question: When you auto renew with PCGS do you get the free submissions every time or is that only for your initial membership?

Yes, because it's a one-year membership. You just renew under the same deal and get a new set of freebies.

Is there anything in addition to register and pay to get the vouchers ? It's been over week now and no information on the vouchers.

You should be getting a welcome package in the mail with paperwork, submission forms and the vouchers.

They are putting up the platinum membership by over 25%. Ouch. Considering their operating margins are over 60$ it isn't as if they are losing money at the current rates. They will be losing many customers though as those prices are in US dollars and most currencies have dropped sharply this year and will make the effective cost rise 50% (or more) for those of us outside the US.
As I'm in Australia the cost is even higher as we pay an extra 20 USD for the same membership and pay way more to PCGS for shipping costs. Then we pay more to get our coins slabbed.
I'm also questioning the untruths in that press release, rare coin prices are down this year in most categories and if you are not collecting US coins then it is a blatant lie for them to claim they are greatly expanding online market information as they offer zilch at the moment for the dozens of countries coins that I collect.

so I got my welcome pack 12/18 and just got time to sit down and start working on my order for 8 complementary coins. Right after I completed all paper work and labelled the coins , I noticed on top of the form it says "form not valid after 12/31/2014". Any idea what are the implications of this ? I was going to ship the order today but going to hold off until I call their customer service Monday.

Yeah, better call them to find out how they propose to fix their screwup. Shipping you forms that expire in 7 days, over the Holidays? Somebody wasn't thinking. Really shouldn't matter, though, as long as you know the new fee schedule and use it as opposed to what's printed on the form.
