Can some expert tell me, how much are these flaky 17th-Century rose farthings actually worth?

I see them listed for really high prices on ebay and they are mere crusty shards with what can be just about made out to be a design on them - are they worth much? I bought 10 of them for £10 did I overspend?

They're not as good as I expected!

£1 each for 400 year old coins doesn't sound too bad, even if they are corroded, barely recognisable lumps. Certainly I've seen dealers around here (Australia) ask much more than a few dollars for their corroded lumps which they claim are early farthings.

Is this one of those strange quirks about the collectability of certain types of coin? I mean I prefer the look of small, crusty Roman coins with more detail and size, but if the early farthings are very rare, thats a good thing....

A quid apiece for a 350 year old coin is not bad, but they will not appreciate in value significantly. Problem free and attractive Rose Farthings are rather choice, and fiendishly difficult to find in the grade I prefer for them. One of the fascinating aspects of them is their notably diminutive sizing, compared to contemporary privately issued farthing tokens, and especially later farthings beginning with the Chas II issues.

I think they are made of tin, is that why they are so crusty? as tin rusts...

Rose farthings were all made of copper. Tin only made an appearance on later farthings, of which there are not many around. They are the ones with Chas II and the Britannia reverse ca. 1675 etc.

I'm not sure how you'd grade this one, or even compare it...

Here's the link to my ebay auction anyway..
