I recently came across this coin, a small motto 2 cent piece. I haven't bought it yet, but am interested in doing so. I just wanted to check in and see what everyone thinks on what a reasonable price would be. Do you think the couple of scratches, weak strike in spots, and little bit of gunk between United and States really affects the value?

I don't think the guy on the auction site knows that this is a small motto. I won't say what he has it on for until I get some input, but I personally think it's pretty under-priced.

Everyone's opinions on this coin are welcome.

It will not grade with a TPG or at least it will come back with a details grade. Its porous and corroded.. I would not pay more than G4 money for it.

IF it had original surfaces I'd try to get it for $250 but wouldn't complain at $300.
That's based upon a grade of VG.
BUT
As noted above it appears NOT to have original surfaces.
I don't buy DETAILS/Genuine coins so I wouldn't buy it.
It's the sort of coin each person would have to decide what they would be willing to pay.
CERTAINLY not more than $125.

I agree with nohope

$125-$150.

-I can see why you like it though, if the price is right.

I'd buy it in a second if the price was right. Surfaces aren't too bad. Even see a small die crack a 11 o'clock over the 2.

I agree, it would come back details but is still a nice looking coin nonetheless. If the price was right I would certainly scoop it up
