They are extremely common and inexpensive, I can't imagine why anybody would counterfeit one.

Their denomination is so small it's literally worthless. "Sen" now is only used for interest calculations by banks. That Rp 1 is still legal tender, the rest are not, withdrawn in 1996 (even though you can still exchange it at Bank Indonesia until 2029). I don't really understand why they would only withdraw part of a series when usually they withdraw the whole series.

Just for comparison, an iPhone in Indonesia will cost you about 10 million (Rp 10.000.000,00). That means you need 1 billion of (1 000 000 000) the 1 sen notes to get it.

The notes are, as stated, genuine, though even back when they were first issued in the 1960s, they weren't worth much - the 1 sen note made the record books as the least valuable banknote ever printed.

Fun fact: All of the coins from the 70s series (Rp 2, 5, and 10) were withdrawn except for the Rp 1 coin.

BI is weird like that.

In any one series, the size of Indonesian banknotes increase as the denomination increases. It's still like that until today.

This doesn't apply when you compare one series to another series, because the note from the past series will always be bigger for the same denomination.

Edit: Just took out whatever note was in my wallet to show you the size difference of the notes. For this latest series only the length differs though.

From top to bottom: 5000, 10000, 50000 and 100000.
