They look like far to me, check closely on the S in CENTS for
proximity to the edge and thickness of the end of the S.

Far, the top right hook narrows more to the end and gets further away from the rim.

Yup, Far variety! I too struggled with making the determination until I found a near, then it was clear as day to me. The images in the Charlton books re: near/far rim varieties actually complicate it more. When comparing the 2 varieties in hand, it should be much easier to distinguish.
