Hi all collecting decimal coins. Has anyone else been finding a few nice 1986 Peace dollars in their pocket change of late? Over the past week here in Brisbane I have found 5 Peace dollars in EF- near Unc condition in change. For the last 5 years, all I have found is well worn to good Fine ones at best in change. It was over a 8 day period and all 5 coins came from different customers in my taxi in Brisbane, which makes me ask, anyone else finding them at the moment

Can't say they've been showing up in good nick at the same rate as for you, but I do get the odd one now & then that's almost Unc. Probably one a month average.

I would settle for 1 a month. These are the first better ones I've found, but don't go through large amounts of change compared to many. So your the one getting to them before me in Bris nancyc, lol.

I should have given a bit more info in the previous post. I probably have 3 or 4 x 86 Peace dollars that are EF - aUnc. They started showing up approx 4 -6 mths ago. My theory is that someone's stash (collection) got nicked & has been spent, and this is why EF - aUnc coins begin to appear. I've seen quite a few Proof coins of all denominations in circulation, but they are very badly marked & I just toss 'em back, can't see that they're worth any more than vace value.

G'day from Darwin, I've seen one in better-than-usual condition this week, but it was well short of "unc". I kept it because it only cost me $1. We're only now getting the APEC $1. I've come to the conclusion that Darwin is really the last place for numismatic phenomena. Peter

I very rarely find ANY Peace dollars way down here, in any sort of condition. I have found a number of uncirculated Kingsford-Smith dollar coins lately, along with several twenty-cent pieces that were only released in mint sets. Which leads me to believe that some poor collector has had their coins stolen and spent! quote: Originally posted by nancyc

I rarely find any unc $1 coins down here either (Victoria). For some reason when I do many seem to be 1984 $1. Not sure why. Snooba in my search through 20c pieces I have noticed a few that are only supposed to be in mint sets as well. Sometimes some $1 coins as well. There must be a fair bit of theft and of desperation going on.
