Trying to learn a bit more about grading, curious what the consensus on this one is. I have an idea, that I am sure is off. I figured this should be close to XF-40 plus or minus (in terms of flatness/wear), but I'm not sure how rim dings affect, maybe knocks it all the way down to F? There are some on top in the back and on the left and bottom and right in front.

Im glad I took this picture, the feathers on the eagle are very neat, and I couldnt see them well with my naked eye.

The rim dings are not severe, particularly on gold of this age, and would not hurt the grade much if at all. A bigger concern would be ex-jewelry (i.e. mounted) vs circulation-type rim dings. Anyways, the detail is easily XF and maybe even XF+ if there's some decent luster remaining.

EF45 from here, nice example.

..Rim dings aren't bad.
(Usually most folks call the "front" the obverse and "back" the reverse side of the coin).
