I believe this is a proof, hard to see in photos but definitely looks like one when compared to my other MS Merc dimes. Also the squared rims. It's not in the best shape, but just looking for expert opinions on confirmation as a Proof, or just Proof-like dime.

Thanks in advance!! RK

A couple more shots of the rims, they are not rounded going into the fields but are sharp and are like a square step.

Hard to tell for sure if it's a proof, but it is very well struck.

If it were mine, I'd send it to ANACS and find out.

It could be a business strike from reused proof dies. I am not sure how that played out in the 20th century at the mint but I own my fair share of Liberty Seated dimes that are verified business strikes from reused proof dies.

Sure looks like a proof to me, impaired possibly, the look of the fields as they run into the devices look very proof, as do the rims, though (and that it could be a business strike from old proof dies put into use at the end of their life as proof making dies).

It kind of looks like a proof to me. I would send it to ANACS for grading.

with the reused die option, seems the most likely considering all the factors.

It is a coin struck as a proof, not a business strike struck with proof dies. Only a proof strike will have a sharply squared wire rim.

It does have the Proof finish look to it, but have been mishandled. You're not going to get those band from business strikes. Send it in for the holder attribution.
