Can you show the obverse? This may be moved to the error/varieties forum.

From the pictures it looks like Monticello is opalescent? Like there may be some kind of overlay applied to it? , Marcools!

It kinda looks like 3 fluorescent ink/paint colors that have been worn down.
Welcome to the forum. Great topic for your first post!

Something radio active is now in that building. Most likely someone painted that area with something that glows.

What you have there is an aftermarket treatment to the nickel to make it "sell at a premium" through places like QVC and other gimmick coin sellers. It is a holographic film applied to the coin to make it look special.

Thanks guys. I'm gonna have someone take a second look at it. Anyone have any luck lately finding silver coin roll hunting?

Nickels and halves seem to be about the only reliable sources for silver hunting these days. What are you going to have someone "look at" in regards to your nickel? That coin is only worth face value.

I'm new to coin collecting and roll hunting. I started with quarters and dimes which I found no silver. But I did find a 2005 kansas quarter which read "in god we rust" and a few odd looking dimes that I'll post later. I just moved to nickels and halves. No silver in the have but I did find a 2009. In the nickels I found a 1944. Only silver I've found so far. Do you guys have any tips or wisdom to pass down?

Roll hunting for silver these days is very hit and miss...no real secret to be found, check out the sub-forum here on roll hunting and you can see all the reports people have from the field.

That is a nickel that was given a holographic treatment and then circulated. Likely a test piece for someone trying to get the effect on the whole coin.
