Besides "Epay"-too-much, are there any legit online auctions sites where the prices are fair and the listed coins are what they claim to be? I'm an admitted lazy collector and would like to know if there is such a thing. Please reply if you have actually used one and had success. Or had a terrible experience and need to vent. Thanks in advance.

Both Teletrade and Heritage only sell slabbed coins from legit graders... ebay really isn't a bad place tho, you just need to do your own homework, I usually get things there noticably cheaper than I get them at a local coin shop... Teletrade: http://www.teletrade.comHeritage: http://coins.ha.com

Depends on what coins you are collecting.....
There is Delcampe in Eurpoe, TradeMe in New Zealand, EMU Auctions in Australia just to name a few.

For US coins Heritage is one of the better known. Their pictures are always super high resolution, and they're highly reputable so you can't go wrong IMO. You can find great deals on ebay but you need to have patience and sift through a lot of garbage. Look for low open bids, with adequate pictures and a seller with good feedback. Those will always go for market value, or perhaps a bit less.

There's also Stacks, Bowers & Marena and Superior Galleries. I've dealt with Superior on a straight purchase and found them to be very professional. There's a new auction site called *********, endorsed by the ANA. They are supposed to offer ebay style auctions with low fees strictly for coins and other collectibles. Too early to tell whether they will be successful in attracting enough sellers and buyers.

I've had some trouble with Superior, and from what I hear I'm not the only one. However, if there's a coin you like then bid on it. Just remember that they may charge you $25 for shipping on a $100 coin. Stacks deals in mostly raw coins, but they do offer slabbed coins. Goldberg's also has some excellent auctions, although their estimates are insanely low. They have an auction going on right now, if I remember correctly. Legend Numismatics also occasionally runs its own auctions as well.

You can also checkout Proxibid; within Proxibid, there are multiple auction house and offer anything and everything. You also need to do your homework & carefully look at the fee (buyer fee is usually 15% or sometime more) and shipping (some offer free shipping - I think Scott Auction or something like that). The draw back with those auction house in Proxibid is that they usually don't have good picture for the coins.
Another place you can look for is "SeizedPropertyAuctions.com" which is being advertised on this forum. They are having 1 auction going on right now. Their pictures for the coins are better than those in Proxibid, their buyer fee is only 10%. HOWEVER, they are charging any where from $10-$20 per lot (ie: it can be 1 coin or multiple coin being offer with one price) not only that, they DO NOT combine shipping. Which mean you may end up paying 25% more than the bid price for one coin (unless you bid on a lot with multiple coin).
Good luck and enjoy.

Also with seized property auctions, they seem to over grade on some lots. Also, if your thinking you can get items for cheap or descent prices, forget about it.

seized property auctions, is a little misleading as they are a private company. I looked at them a few years ago and could hardly believe the kind of prices they were realizing for not so great coins. I made inquiries and they do accept consignments. I have been tempted to consign but for some reason I have yet to do so.

Nohope is right, they do consign. I didn't notice it until until the second auction when I was reading the fine print, and I forgot about it until now. I wonder how much they take for consignment? Anyways, I wouldn't waste a lot of time on it. I'm just going to take a peak at it before it ends just to see if there's something I like there for the right price.

To me all auction places are like the flea markets. IF you know what your doing, you can come out way ahead. If you don't, you usually loose. People have shown me coins from ebay that shold have sold for 10 times what they paid and then the opposite also happens.
